Make a movie!

This is an example of an Indian movie subtitled in English. Look and listen to the movie and then follow the instructions you will find below.



1st: Go to the following page http://www.grapheine.com/bombaytv/play_es.php and click
"Realizar una película". There, you will find a list of movies you can subtitle in English.

2nd: This activity can be done in pairs and you only have to choose one movie and subtitle it.

3rd: The activity will make you reflect on the language since the subtitles have to be grammatically correct and of course, they need to be contextualized and related to the scene. What is more, the activity will make your imagination work a little bit and this will promote your creativity.

Communication

Communication is very important in language learning. In fact, the main objective of any language is communication. we use the language to communicate with each other and express our opinions, thoughts, feelings, etc. Before having a look at the presentation below, you should reflect on your reasons for learning English and what you expect from learning English in class. Then you are ready to look at the presentation and think about the questions that you will find there. We will talk about these questions in class so if you want to prepare them or answer the questions on a piece of paper, you can do it.

Look at the following pictures of different places and describe what you can see and/or what each image suggests to you (e.g. fear). You can also tell us which place would you like to visit and why. The aim of the activity is to make you think about your feelings and your likes. Everybody and everything can suggest a feeling or an emotion both positively and negatively. So the idea of the activity is to make you reflect and be able to express yourself and your inner feelings.

1.-Write a brief summary of the video (2 or 3 lines).

2.- Can you explain in English or find an English synonym of the following words?

b)garbage
c)sloppiness
d)endearing

3.- Imagine one day you find yourself in the same situation than Ross. What would you do? Think about this question and we will talk about it in class.

4.- Think about what you have learnt doing this activity and if it has been worthwile. Give reasons for your answers.

Welcome to knowledge

Human beings have the need to learn and the capacity to do it by themselves. Although the help of an expert or a teacher is always very useful and comforting, we should be able to learn without support from others because in this way, we depend on ourselves and not on others for knowledge. Moreover, being a self-taught person will give us self-confidence, which apart from being very gratifying, will be essential to promote autonomy in learning.
Moreover, learner autonomy is freedom. We know better than others our level of the language, what skills or aspects of the language we need to go deeply into and of course, we know our goals and objectives. Learner autonomy will surely help you to achieve these objectives because who knows better than you what your wants, your needs and your expectations are?

Motivation is an essential aspect in sef-education. We need to be motivated to learn and improve day after day. In fact, I venture to say that motivation is the key factor in the process of learning, in general, and self-learning, in particular. Therefore, we should have the ability to stimulate ourselves when we are discouraged by nurturing motivating thoughts and neutralizing negative ones.
